What does CAPS stand for?

stands for Core Administrative Processing

Why do we have CAPS centers in the Provost
division?
The
CAPS centers were established in the Provost division as a method for
streamlining and efficiently handling the HR and Procurement processes.
CAPS centers are helpful in reducing the cost and amount of time involved
in continually training people in PeopleSoft processes.
How many CAPS
centers are in the Provost division?
There are two HR CAPS centers and
one Procurement CAPS center in the Provost division. These are: Faculty/Staff
CAPS (305 Jesse Hall), Student CAPS (Student Success Center), Procurement
CAPS (305 Jesse Hall).
Who is included in the Provost CAPS centers?
Departments reporting
to the Provost division, University Affairs, and the Chancellor's Office are included in the CAPS centers.
What is NERF
and SMERF?
A new employee or a rehire is given a NERF (New
Employee Registration Form) if they have a faculty or staff
title. A student employee is given a SMERF (Student MU Employment
Registration Form).
The purpose of these forms is to provide the employee with information
about going to a CAPS center to complete necessary hiring paperwork.
This form should be completely filled out and given to the employee
by the hiring department.
When is it necessary for a CAPS Center to
complete an appointment notification?
a) New Hire Faculty and Staff;
b) Rehire Faculty and Staff;
c) Employee moves from benefit eligible to non-benefit eligible or
reverse;
d) Employee moves from academic title to staff title;
e) Employee moves from student title to staff or academic title;
f) Do not use this form for student titles unless transferring to
a non-student title.
Do concurrent appointments need an appointment notification?
No, unless
primary job is a student title
Who prepares the CAPS form to be sent to
the CAPS center?
The person responsible for the fiscal oversight of
the department completes the electronic CAPS form and forwards it to
the appropriate CAPS center.
Who generates staff position numbers?
How long does it take to get a position number?
Human Resource Services
generates the staff position number. The position number/change should
be requested by the hiring department. Download
the position number request/change form. After completing this
form it can be forwarded to HRS via Outlook address: UMC HRS Position
Mgmt Update. Generally, you will receive the position number the
same day that the request is made.
After receipt of the position number how long
does it take for the PAF to be generated?
The PAF will be generated
the next business day. The new position number or change will be updated
in the Position Management System overnight and available to the Smart
PAF system the next day.
Who generates the Employee ID number?
The hiring department requests the Empil through the link on WebApps and includes the number on the CAPS form before submission. Please contact Margaret Marshall for access to this link.
How do I know if the PAF has been prepared once the CAPS form is sent?
Rebecca Peters will send a confirmation email once the PAF has been sent to HR.
